Dr. Penry is the only psychoanalytically trained psychologist working in South Alabama. A true gift for people interested in the life altering freedom offered by intensive, depth therapy.
Dr. Penry is from the gulf coast of Alabama where she currently lives, loves, and maintains a psychology practice. After graduating from Bayside Academy, she attended college in Tennessee then traversed to Chicago for her graduate studies at Wheaton College. While at Wheaton, Dr. Penry distinguished herself as a leader in the integration of Christian theology and psychological theory and continues this pursuit as a candidate of the Brookhaven Institute for Psychoanalysis and Christian Theology. While living in Illinois, she worked in the private sector, deepening her knowledge and passion for interpersonal psychotherapy/assessment with adults, adolescents, and families. After leaving Chicago, Dr. Penry took a residency at Mississippi State Hospital - one of the largest mental institutions in America. In her capacity at MSH, she developed and implemented effective programing to care for and treat those among us who have suffered tremendously at the hands of severe and persistent mental illness, trauma, and institutionalization.
In 2012, Dr. Penry moved back to Alabama to begin the journey toward providing hope and help to the people in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. She is passionate about seeing that the people of south Alabama, an area that is sorely underserved, have access to excellent, well-informed psychological services. Having been well-trained and educated, she intends to come alongside the people of the Gulf Coast to build stronger marriages, families, and communities, happier children, and healthier individuals. Although she considers her self to be psychoanalytic in orientation, she is eclectic in intervention so that every disorder can be treated according to the standards of best practice. She is happily married to a tried and true farmer at azaleayams.com. They have one daughter and a dashing Boston Terrier named Todd.
