Questions about Cost and Insurance
Therapy can be quite expensive and I expect to be paid at the end of every session. It is an investment you make in your self, your family, and your future that will have dividends for the rest of your life. It is a good reminder that we often get out of life what we put in. It is also good to remember that therapy is cheaper than divorce, job loss, or counter-productive habits. Therapy is a way of investing in your well being, healing, and self-understanding that can loosen the chains that keep us stagnant, bitter, and trapped in unhealthy patterns of behavior or relationship.
Flexibility and Sliding Fees:
I see a certain number of clients every week at a reduced rate. If you are experiencing financial burden, or if your circumstances change, I have some flexibility in my fee schedule. If you would like to be considered for sliding fee, be prepared to have an honest conversation about your monthly wages and expenses. I do not want money to be a prohibitive factor in your getting help. Many churches that I contract with offer to subsidize a certain number of sessions, so this too is an option. If you have been referred by a church or parish please let me know.
Many whom I see choose to be seen with greater frequency, sometimes 3-4x a week. This does not indicate greater sickness or difficulty. Rather, it allows for more powerful change, greater depth, and it facilitates movement in stubborn, longstanding relational patterns. I structure my fees so that increasing frequency is easier and does not become prohibitive.
Like many in my field with similar levels of training and expertise, I do not accept insurance. In short, this is because insurance is invasive, exploits the confidential nature of our relationship, and pays quite poorly. All this, for the steep price of hours in unpaid time doing paperwork and claims. I am however, licensed, heavily credentialed, and most insurance companies will reimburse you for my services. I provide all my clients with the appropriate codes on a monthly superbill that you can use to submit a claim yourself. I will gladly discuss this further with you in person. I also have a Policy on Insurance document that details my decision. It is available here and on my "resources" page.
